Topic outline

  • General description

Data mining is a wide field that includes key ideas from various sciences of statistics, artificial intelligence, databases, and visualization. It mainly aims to provide students with an understanding of the problems of data mining and the algorithms that are used to solve these problems, in biological and medical applications in particular. It covers examples of some sources of biological information and basic techniques for data mining, which include data filing, pattern/frequency mining, classification, clustering, anomaly detection, trait selection methods, etc., which later helps in deep analysis of big biological data.
