Topic outline

  • General description

The purpose of this course is to teach students basic concepts in statistics and the importance of this science for being the only one whose basic material is data. The student will be introduced to types of data and methods of collecting, representing , displaying and describing data in tabular form , graphics and curves, or in a digital form using measures of central tendency and variation. Also, the student will be given an idea of the basic concepts of probability, including events, tests and how to calculate the possibilities, and an idea of the discontinuous and continuous probability distributions and their practical applications. The student will be introduced to methods of detecting and mathematical representation of the relationships between the variables as well as the time series, and how they are analyzed and used in predicting the values of dependent variable. Finally, the student will learn about the index numbers , methods of calculation and practical applications.
