Diplomatic relations are part of international relations, the rules of which are established as a result of international practices that were turned into international customs and later into written rules.
The role of diplomatic work in international relations needs to be identified and steady legal rules in mutual international relations and their consequences need to be shown whether they are friendly or unfriendly relations. Moreover, diplomatic rules are no longer based upon custom only. They have now a conventional source through Vienna convention on diplomatic relations (not to mention the consular part in international relations)
