General description
This course deals with the steps to be taken for strategic planning in order to develop the Environmental Adaptive Management and Resource implementation Plan. Once the student has learned about the principles of adaptive planning, concepts and types of indicators, and how to develop and use them, the student will use the knowledge gained from previous course to build a plan based on scientific information on the state of ecosystems and resources with the integration of economic and social information. This plan includes actions to be implemented and how to monitor the quality of implementation, and principles of auditing, and reviewing of the plan when necessary.
The course consists of four chapters:
1- Assessment of natural ecosystem: Up-to-date assessment methods are used to assess the state of ecosystems and resources such as GIS to map the spatial distribution of systems and resources and compare data and information over time to assess any trends to be used to establish an action plan for its conservation and protection, the assessment includes as well different human activities that affects on the state and vice-versa.
2- Planning for initiatives portfolio: The planning includes building a vision on the state of ecosystems and resources that stakeholders would like to see in the future and means to develop initiatives portfolio and expected immediate outputs and future outcomes on the basis of the results of the assessment and development of set of indicators for monitoring and follow up.
3- Management of initiatives portfolio: This chapter elaborates on the management of initiatives portfolio in managing and follow up of actions and communication with stakeholders and ensure financing of implementation and follow up of indicators.
4- Lessons learned and review of initiatives portfolio: This chapter elaborates on the management of initiatives portfolio in managing and follow up of actions and communication with stakeholders and ensure financing of implementation and follow up of indicators.
