General description
This course introduces students to the functions of language teaching books, methods of designing the content of these books, and methods of analyzing and evaluating them according to standard levels in light of international frameworks in the field of language education. It also deals with educational materials and the scientific foundations for their preparation, in terms of defining objectives, choosing linguistic and cultural material, arranging and evaluating it, the stages of preparing materials, and how building and organizing lessons. This course trains students by preparing models of lessons and educational units. They also get acquainted with the most prominent characteristics of a good book in language teaching and then apply them in analyzing a sample of language teaching materials. It provides the student with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand the curriculum, its foundations, pillars, elements, and types, and it familiarizes the student with the standards of designing, producing, and storing linguistic educational materials, whether they need devices or are presented without traditional or modern devices such as interactive multimedia programs. The course also aims to acquaint the student with the theories of teaching languages via the computer and various educational techniques in general. Students are trained to deal with different technologies, whether computers, projectors, or distance education media, and to benefit from them practically in teaching and learning languages.
